Creative thinking and circular solutions development in school’s hackathon in Sztum.

On 23-24 January 2024, pupils from primary schools in the municipality of Sztum took part in a hackathon called ‘Norwegian Circular School Challenge – We’re Closing the Circle!’ organized as part of the project ‘Sztum Circular Economy – the answer to today’s climate challenges’.

During the two-day event, ten teams of six worked under the guidance of moderators from the Norwegian NGO Ungt Entreprenørskap on solutions supporting the introduction of the principles of the circular economy in the school environment or its immediate surroundings. The pupils presented their ideas in the form of short presentations to a jury of SCE project partners, chaired by Leszek Tabor, Mayor of the City and Municipality of Sztum.

The five winning projects (including a community fridge and cupboard, a zero-waste restaurant, and a flower meadow) will be further developed for possible implementation in the municipality during the next stage of the workshop, which is a mentoring program run with the support of lecturers from the Gdansk University of Technology.
